BRENDA M. SPECHT, 78, formerly of Advance, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2012, in Shawano.

Brenda was born on May 30, 1934, to the late Thomas and Margaret (Jeffs) Slater in Northampton, England. When she was a child she delivered papers and later was an usherette at the Savoy Theater in Northampton, England. She married Marshall Specht on February 25, 1956, in England while he was serving there in the military. She arrived in the United States at Ellis Island with her husband, Marshall Specht, September 1, 1956, on the troop ship, General William Darby. Brenda became a U. S. Citizen in 1976. When they moved to this area, she worked at the Pulaski Shoe Factory for a short time before they got into the tavern business in Angelica. They then bought a tavern in Advance which would be called Brenda’s Bar. In the 30+ years of owning that business, Brenda touched the lives of many generations of families. She was a giving and loving person, called Mom by many of her children’s friends.

Brenda is survived by her children, Cindy (Ron) Wians, Bonduel; Gary Marshall Specht (Meghan Perron), Portland, Oregon; Sharon (Jason) Luepke, Bonduel; Debby (Greg) Carpenter, Freedom; eleven grandchildren, Angie (Ryan) Nowinsky; Nick Wians; Hilary (Luke) Klevesahl; Matthew (Lacey) Wians; Chelsea (Jeff) Lierman; Daniel (Maura) Specht; Randy (Jess) Specht; Jake Luepke; Taylor Luepke; Andrea Carpenter; Alex Carpenter; seven great-grandchildren, Allyson; Henry; Brantley; Liam; Lyla; Lena; Luca; a sister-in-law, June Slater of England.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Barry Slater.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2013, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Hartland Town Hall, W3454 County Road BE, Bonduel. Zastrow Funeral Home in Cecil is assisting the family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Manor Care in Shawano for the wonderful care of their Mom.
